The New All Electric Jaguar I-PACE SUV

The all electric Jaguar I-PACE debuts at the 2016 LA Auto Show, exciting EV enthusiasts and Jaguar fans alike. The I-PACE is built upon design principals gained from Jaguar’s involvement with Formula E race series. Jaguar will continue to build upon these principals prior to production. More than just a concept, Jaguar promises to deliver the new SUV by 2018.

Jaguar I-PACE Stats

The liquid cooled 90kWh battery pack is manufactured in house and gives the SUV a 220 mile range. It can be charged to 80 percent capacity in 90 minutes using a DC charger. The all wheel drive electric motor system delivers 394HP, 516 ft lbs of torque, and is capable of reaching 60mph in approximately 4 seconds. For those familiar with the F-PACE SUV, you will be pleased to know that the I-PACE uses the same state of the art suspension system.

Interior Features of the I-PACE

Jaguar is able to design the interior with better visibility than traditional gas powered cars, due to the absence of a bulky engine. There is also more legroom than traditional SUVs. Taking a cue from Tesla, the new I-PACE features a large glass roof perfect for star gazing. Jaguar intends to offer a large touchscreen compatible with apps and smartphones. This feature however, was not on display at the auto show.

The Jaguar I-PACE vs the Tesla Model X

Jaguar has displayed the first promising competition for the Tesla Model X SUV. The I-PACE resembles the Model X in many regards, but is lacking the distinctive falcon doors that quickly identify the Model X. However, this may be an advantage for Jaguar. Many consumers are unhappy with the falcon doors and have also reported other problems with the Model X. If Jaguar is able to produce a competent all electric SUV, they may be capable of winning over a few Tesla fans. For many of us, the countdown to 2018 has begun!
