We first reported on the Ford Mustang Mach-E early last year, when Ford announced that an all new electric Mustang would be hitting the market. What a surprise to find out that Ford would offer, for the first time in history, a four door Mustang! Fast forward to 2021 and not only has this Mustang SUV come to fruition, it’s winning competitions. Yes, the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV has won the NACTOY North American SUV of the Year Award.
Notice what Detroit News Auto Critic and NACTOY juror Henry Payne has to say about the Mach-E: “The Mustang Mach-E leapfrogs European EVs as the Tesla Model Y’s most formidable challenger yet. Like Tesla, Mach-E understands that the premium EV market is as much about interior tech as it is about torque.”
The 2021 Mustang Mach-E also won out against a couple gas powered SUVs. The Genesis GV80 and the Landrover Defender made it to the top three, but couldn’t defeat the new EV Mustang.
About NACTOY
North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards (NACTOY) was founded in 1994. They are not associated with a specific media outlet. The awards are judged by 50 professional automotive journalists from the US and Canada.
Each year vehicles are sorted into three categories: car, truck, and utility. From there they are narrowed down to 27 semifinalists; nine in each category. Then the vehicles are narrowed down to three in each category through two rounds of voting.
